Veteran Support Team at The Salvation Army
With a mission to end veteran homelessness, the Veteran Support Team has been supporting veterans and veteran families experiencing homelessness or housing instability across Queensland since 2017.
In addition to advocating for the housing needs of the veteran community, we work tirelessly on an individual level, because we strongly believe that prevention of homelessness is the best solution.
We provide face-to-face and remote support that is flexible and responsive to veterans and veteran families facing homelessness or housing instability of any kind throughout Queensland.
Who do we support?
We support people of all ages who are serving or who have served in the Australian Defence Force — regardless of the nature of your service, widows and ex-partners and dependent children escaping domestic and family violence situations who are experiencing homelessness or are having concerns around their current housing.
If you are not sure do not hesitate to contact our veteran and veteran family entry pathways via phone (0486 002 535) or email (veteransupportteam@salvationarmy.org.au) to speak to someone about your circumstances.
How can we help?
We believe veterans and veteran families should have choice and control over all aspects of their lives, including where they live, housing types, and the support networks that suit their needs.
We can help you secure stable, safe and independent housing and develop the skills necessary to overcome any barriers you may be facing to achieve this.
If you are having trouble keeping your current housing, we can also assist by exploring all options to help you to stay (if that is sustainable for you).
This may include:
- Working with you to access temporary crisis housing when you need it
- Support with tenancy applications and exploring housing options available to you
- Advice and support to keep your current housing
- Linking you in with other appropriate Salvos or external supports
